nice balkony

To be honest, i intended to camp somewhere in this region (and - as i've seen by passing through - there were lots of possibilities). But i reached the place/lake already at about 2 o'clock so i headed on for some more kilometers. I ended up in a nice hotel with a lake 'in the backyard'. Of course i couldn't resist the clean water and the beautiful scenery and had to take a little swim.

storks everywhere

I haven't seen a lot of wildlife on my trip so far - with one exception, the borderlands between Austria and Czech Republic where i've encountered loads of hares, partridges and does.
Here in Lithuania, the stork seems to feel quite at home. There are many houses with stork-nests and their inhabitants including the young ones.

cycling in the hinterland of Lithuania

The landscape in the eastern part of Lithuania is simply stunning. Soft hills, small villages with colorful wooden houses, dense forests with small lakes every here and then. Just amazing.

gem in the nature

Besides many lakes, soft hills and lush meadows there where also some hidden (well for me at least) on my way to Vilnius.

...hehe, okay. A few hours later i got told by my local guide that Tarkai was (one of many) the former capital of Lithuania. Nowadays it's mainly a touristic attraction with its castle.

road conditions

New country, new conditions...
The roads here in Lithuania are pretty ok when there is pavement. But sometimes the pavement just ends and the street continues as gravel road.
..and this not just in forests and on small streets.
