luxury

Yesterday evening, i stayed in a decent hotel in Riga, had a jacuzzi in my room and went to sleep in a big bed.
Today evening, i stay in a proper campground, have the (almost empty) beach at 50m distance and will go to sleep in a comfy sleepingbag.

Both is luxury..just a bit on a different scale.

first glimpse of the Baltic Sea

It took over two hours until i finally saw the Baltic Sea for the first time. During a small break i followed a small path through a forest until i saw the sea. Sadly the picture isn't top, so it's kind of hard to see it in the background.

..did i mention the jacuzzi?

Had a marvellous birthday.
Apart from strolling around and trying various coffees again i even got invited to a Latvian barbecue.
When i returned to the hotel, i found a plate full of fruits and a small birthday card in my room. This and a Latvian beer (i bought a bit earlier) was the perfect combination to enjoy the jacuzzi one last time. =o)

...i'll surely miss it.

Riga Explorers Club

While strolling through the city, i stumbled upon this lovely little store. It's mainly a bicycle-rental but the lads there also know about trips and tracks outside the city.

They gave me some advice about places worth seeing and some others to rather pass by.
Moreover, they provided me lubrics, towels and a chain-cleaning-machinery to maintain my bicycle properly. Awesome!

If you're staying in Riga and thinking about cycling a bit, this is the place to go.

check-in at Astor Riga Hotel

As a small birthday present from me to myself, i checked in at the Astor Riga Hotel for my 3 night stay in Riga. Booked a standard room but upgraded it to a 'comfort room' (bigger bed, big jacuzzi =o) as i arrived there.
The best thing, they offered me the room and the upgrade for the lowest possible price.
Totally enjoy my stay.
